Red in the morning
Dark clouds through the afternoon -
rain coming tonight?

After the storms

My yard reminds me
of Maurice Sendak monster
large and rambunctious.

Mourning dove calling,
the sun slowly distancing,
sunflowers reaching

Monday, laundry day,
sheets and blankets stripped and washed,
new made bed tonight.

Father, food and games,
morning walk in cool, wet, woods,
dreaming of Northwest.

Dr. Seuss flowers,
bee balm's bright red fright wigs sprout
from sodden garden.

Midsummer

Fluffy mimosa
pink tufts on slender branches
overarching all.

Phew

Lashing thunderstorm,
stinky tree of heaven smell,
close all the windows.

Good morning

On Monday mornings
prayers and meditation,
laundry to be done.

Arghh

Zmmmm, Zmmm, Zmmm  - all day
Weedwhackers, lawnmowers buzz;
no quiet Sunday.

Through the backdoor

i know not the name
of the sweet, flowering bush,
but i welcome it.

Dog barking pre-dawn
Startling me awake, but then,
falling back asleep.

Before the rainstorm

Heavy green stillness,
The shadowed trees stand in rank,
not even bird song.

Tuesday

Yesterday's heat gone.
Today's nor'easter brings us
cold, gray, steady rain.
