Beautiful

Though the sunrise was technically hidden by the clouds, the sky in the south and east glowed a brilliant pink and orange before turning back to silvery gray, a delightful reward for rising before the sun!

ups and downs

Crowns fall off, teeth repaired, tire goes flat, in the shop, talks go well, then frantically busy day, the roller coaster of life!

No wonder....

...it was the Italian Renaissance, too cold to paint in northern climes.  Class was fun but chilly, maybe photos will follow tomorrow.

Preparing

The next subzero weather is due in tonite so changing the sheets and towels and doing the laundry before the worry of frozen pipes and drains returns. We are a degree above freezing this morning for the first time in a week but to plummet as the day goes on.

Dawn

A sliver of bright moon to the south in a velvety indigo sky with the beautiful stillness and quiet of a Sunday morning underlying it.

Amazing

Great splashes of pink and orange on the southern and eastern horizon, a spectacular dawn on an otherwise cold, gray day.

Quite the cold spell

It hasn't been this cold for this long in many years.  We have been waking up to temps around 0 for a few days, to warm up to the teens today, the 20's are looking pretty dang good about now.  The last snow is preserved quite nicely and more possible tomorrow.
Great weather for knitting and quilting and cooking, however today I will brave the outdoors and run errands and have lunch with a friend.

Busy day

Lots of paperwork today, tax season is starting, monthly pr to do, knitting is ongoing, tying up lots of loose ends, hooray!  Tomorrow is an out and about day, today caught up on laundry and other household chores.  Even had a little piano playing thrown into the mix last evening.

-15

The weatherbug says it is minus 15, wasn't too bad when I was out shoveling, the wind is not as strong as the last time and the sun is brightly shining.  The house is snug and the knitting is proceeding nicely, there may be a sweater by March.

Waiting for the snow

At 6 am they predicted 8-12 inches today with below zero windchills.  We are snug so far with well-stocked pantry and library to keep us occupied and fed.  Projects galore and webinars to look forward to along with phone meetings to substitute for the classes and meetings that are postponed or cancelled today.  No worries, if the power goes out we head to the basement.

Update

Second sleeve in progress.  Art supplies organized for tomorrow's class, if we have it, anywhere from 1-8 inches of snow in the forecast.  At least the webinar in the afternoon should still be going on.   Imagine tomorrow night's meeting may be cancelled.
Off for groceries...

2014 Schedule

Exciting and scary, the year is starting to fill up after I sort of cleared the decks the end of 2013.  Commitments are crowding in at a bit of an alarming rate!  Webinars, classes, commissions and more are coming fast and furious in a lovely swirling flurry, hopefully they will stretch out as a beautiful ribbon thru the upcoming year.
Finished one sleeve of the cardie yesterday, hooray, starting the second today.

OMG

Snow blowing by sideways out the window this morning, winter has returned.  Indoors we hung quilts on my eldest's walls today and it was like spring seeing the colors and patterns blossom there; it made my heart glad.

Out to lunch

Visited with a friend at lunch today, registered for a continuing class.
The clear sunny day was lovely!  Another week is coming to a close, a knit sleeve is about 2/3's done, not much to show, slow going!

Back in the drink

Rain today, the oddest winter with its ups and downs, but at least the shoveling has been manageable.  Have a sleeve knit up to the elbow, slow going, I need to take some photos.

Frosty morning

Rose gold clouds on the cerulean blue horizon promises a gorgeous sunny day!

Cardie progress

The back is complete, 2/3's of the left front, and 1/6th of a sleeve - knitting, knitting, knitting.

Today we are floating

What a crazy winter, lots of rain, despite lots of cold, the weeks are up and down and up and down.  Today is the warm up with the rain again after having ice on the ground most of yesterday.  Off to run errands today, still knitting, knitting, knitting!

EEK it's raining ice

Another freakish morning storm where one minute nothing the next there is an inch of white stuff, but this time it is spattering down in icy clumps.  Thank heavens for a snug house and hot water!

Almost up to freezing

And delightful it is!  We could unplug the dryer vent and do laundry today, hooray.
The sun is filtered thru an overcast sky but it still feels balmy after the last few days of the "polar vortex."  The forecast for Saturday is 58 and rain, what crazy weather!

Bright stars

The stars burned fiercely in the cold clear air last night, today there is a softening of clouds and promise of a warm up.

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

So far so good

Hubby made it to work, water is still running, house is staying cozy, hooray!

Monday, January 6, 2014

Uh-oh

Wind chills of minus 20 in the forecast for tomorrow.  Time to batten down the hatches and hunker in.

Promises

The UPS man banged on the door and rang the bell while I was practicing the piano today, and there was a big roll of natural cotton batting enough for a dozen quilts, dreaming of the future....

Happy New Year

Happy Birthday to my eldest!  A lovely day spent celebrating with food, song, games, gifts and a movie.  The very best way to usher in a year!
