Lovely surprises
We found the bloodroot blooming not too many but some, hooray!
And while we were looking at it we had a pileated woodpecker call and fly and then 2 wild turkeys came down the bank and crossed the road, quite the day for us.

Off to the marsh again
Hope to see the trout lilies in bloom today, last week the skunk cabbage was just finishing blooming. An amazing fact about the trout lily or dogtooth violet is that is grows in colonies that may be as old as 300 years, we are viewing them near where my ancestor, George Ross, set up an iron furnace during the Revolutionary War, they may have been around since then, wow.

Spring craziness
The peach trees and magnolias are all decked out in pink because of the 80 degree weather this weekend and will probably be gone if we get down to the 20's tonight, it must be April.

The lake
First spring walk, free of ice, wavelets lapping, boats back in water, turtles on their rafts, cormorants fishing, martins swooping overhead, geese calling, osprey nest awaiting.

She is fooling us with two gentle spring days in a row filled with birdsong and promise.
And onions for luck.
